5 Little Things You May Have Missed When Decorating

You've painted the walls, hung the curtains, moved the furniture back in and now think it's time to relax with that well deserved cup of coffee... But wait! Are you really finished? There are a few little things that you may have missed when decorating that help the room feel finished and complete. And yes, they may be a little fiddly but take my word for it, they are definitely worth the effort!

1. Door Frames

Do your doors need some TLC? Do they jive with the rest of the freshly painted walls, or does every time you open the door your faced with remnants of the yellowy/beige colour that you tried so hard to eradicate from the rest of the room? (I may or may not be speaking from the trauma of yellowy/beige door frames...) And while you're painting the door frames, don't forget the inside edge of the door itself! For such a hidden little strip, it is surprisingly visible and making sure to paint it will give the room a subtle finishing touch.

2. Light Switches and Power Points

This one may be a personal preference, but I would recommend taking the covers off when painting around switches and power points. Even with the best taping and cutting in, the likelihood of paint getting on the cover or missing a spot around the edge is extremely high. With a newly decorated room do you really want paint spots on your light switches? And while you're taking them off to paint, is it time to replace the covers themselves? Bunnings has a selection of light switch covers to refresh the ones you have, or to switch it up (ha! pun) with one with a different finish or colour.

3. Window Frames

Often overlooked, window frames may not be the first thing you think of when you're dreaming about how gorgeous your new room is going to look and yes, they take a bit more work and a different kind of paint depending on what your window frames are made of, but I think the final result makes it well worth any extra fiddliness. They add a finishing touch to the room, and help draw in the view out the window, even if that view is the back of a straggly bush or a fence.

4. Hardware

Do your cupboard doorknobs need an upgrade to match the fantastic makeover you gave it? Do your kitchen doors look a little dated? A simple and easy way to give your room a little lift is to consider changing the hardware. Doorknobs and cupboard handles can be switched out very easily and give your space that *chef's kiss* finish. You could play around with different metals or styles or have them all uniform for a cohesive look. You can have a lot of fun with these, so have a little play!

Last, but not least...

5. Light Bulbs

5 little things you may have missed when decorating

Does the colour of your lights compliment the colours of the room? A warm, cosy room will be jarred by bright white lighting, while a cool, monochrome sophistication will be destroyed with a yellow glow from a lamp. It is oh so simple, but something that can be overlooked and will detract from the lovely vibe of the room, even if it is subconsciously.

If you take nothing else from this list, please, check your lighting! And let me know if you did ;) I would also love to hear if there's anything you think I should add to the list? I might need to check my room for it!
